Abstract

Objective:To explore the correlation between the history of lower extremity sports injuries and simple motor function test indicators in adolescent middle‑distance runners, so as to provide empirical evidence for grassroots injury prevention and screening. Methods:A total of 27 adolescent middle‑distance runners aged 11 to 17 years from Zunyi Municipal Sports School were recruited and divided into an injury group (n=11) and a non‑injury group (n=16) according to whether they had a history of lower extremity injuries in the past year. Six functional assessments, including the Y Balance Test and single‑leg hop tests, were conducted. An independent samples t‑test was used to compare intergroup differences, and Cohen’s d effect sizes were calculated. Results:The asymmetry index of the 6‑meter timed single‑leg hop (16.11%±11.60%) and the single‑leg triple hop asymmetry index (11.31%±4.96%) in the injury group were significantly higher than those in the non‑injury group (P<0.05), with large effect sizes (d=0.87 and 0.93, respectively). No statistically significant intergroup differences were observed in the other indicators (P>0.05).Conclusion:Preliminary evidence suggests that bilateral asymmetry of lower extremity explosive power serves as a practical indicator closely associated with injury history in this population. It is recommended to be applied as an auxiliary screening tool for return‑to‑sport assessment in grassroots sports schools. Prospective studies are needed to verify its predictive efficacy.
